The Orphanage

The book club in Spišská Sobota is hosting a discussion about this book by Serhiy Zhadan next week.

If the circumstances are in my favour, I will be attending the club meeting.

I find the dialogue between the orphanage director, Nina, and the language teacher, Pasha. It happens inside while there is a shooting outside the premises. I consider this dialogue very important for our society now. Such a small number of people are interested in politics and voting. But we are complaining about the situation.

The Orphanage by Serhiy Zhadan, page 151.

That is a case of society’s passivity, which can easily lead to aggression and political tyranny. I think that now is the best time to start doing our own small things about the situation.
