Core Holdings

My eToro portfolio is made up of two main parts: I like to call them Core Holdings and Magnificent 7. Altogether, they make up 60% of the invested capital in the portfolio. I’ve shared the reasons for choosing these in this post.

My Core Holdings aim to make up about 25% of my overall portfolio, split equally among three ETFs: the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, and Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF. Essentially, this reflects my belief in owning the entire US and European markets. I was inspired to build this part of my portfolio by J.L. Collins' book, The Simple Path To Wealth. He wrote it for his daughter, but I found many valuable lessons in it: most importantly, that trying to time the market is futile. If you commit to investing regularly in these affordable ETFs every month, you'll perform better than most fund managers. One lesson I wish I'd understood earlier is to invest as much as possible 20% or more of your net income. Over ten years, this strategy can open up life-changing opportunities you might never have imagined while living paycheck-to-paycheck.

The Magnificent Seven aim to make up about 35% of my overall portfolio, split equally among the 7 biggest US companies. The reason is that, based on all the reports I read, most of the growth in the S&P 500 comes from those 7 tickers. I call it the portfolio growth accelerator. It is not as risky, as those companies have strong governance and excellent leadership. I do believe that working within any one of them would change each employee’s life, and you can see that in their outstanding performance. Of course, access to enormous piles of cash makes more dreams possible. A steady flow of happy customers gradually upgrading their devices or software, or advertising on global platforms, is fuelling growth. And for AI-related growth, I will dedicate an evening to gathering my thoughts. (Some of you know that I closed a lot of AI-related positions before this summer.)

I'm excited to share that, as of the end of August this year, all of you have positive numbers. Even if your copying history is less than a year or you have different timelines for my two biggest portfolio parts, your progress is encouraging. I won’t focus on the return statistics, but I want to emphasize that my main goal is to preserve our capital through responsible investment strategies. Thanks to eToro, we’re growing together, and that truly makes me happy!
